About Me
Denise currently serves as the Director of Music at Springdale Presbyterian Church. She plays organ and piano and directs the adult choir, praise team, children’s choirs, and handbell choir.
Denise performs organ and piano music. Come to her upcoming organ recital at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at 5 p.m. The recital will feature organ music from Nicolaus Bruhns, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Barber and William Bolcom. The church is located at 9616 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40241.
Education & Background
Denise has taught piano for beginning, intermediate and advanced students for over twenty years. She teaches technique, musicality and practicing skills from the very beginning of study. Denise encourages her students to think creatively and logically. Students develop their own goals for piano study.
Denise has also successfully taught students with a variety of learning differences including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, central auditory processing disorder, downs syndrome, dyslexia, and gifted. Denise completely enjoys learning with her students of all ages, abilities and learning styles!
Denise is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance and a Cognate in Music Education at the University of Cincinnati-College-Conservatory of Music. She has a Graduate Orff-Schulwerk Certificate from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Church Music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she studied organ and piano. Her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Bachelor of Science in Music Education (Vocal K-12) are both from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
What I Teach
Standard classical repertoire, contemporary solo repertoire, jazz, improvisation, church music, popular styles, technique and theory.
