Matthew (Matt) Grossman has worked full-time in the piano business for since 1975. He learned the craft of piano tuning, repair and restoration as an employee of Campbell’s Music Co. in Washington, DC. While there, he had the opportunity to serve as a concert piano technician for Campbell’s Steinway Concert and Artists division where he did work for the White House, Wolf Trap, the National Symphony and other high profile venues and customers in the DC area.
In 1978 Matt was hired by the University of Memphis as Piano Technologist with the responsibility for the tuning and maintenance of 110 pianos, teaching a college level course in piano maintenance and supervising a two-year Piano Technician Apprenticeship Program. In 1990 he moved to the University of Louisville to perform similar duties with 160 pianos. In 1995 Matt started his own business as a full-time independent piano tuner/technician.
In 2004 he opened his first retail piano store. From that The Piano Shop was established. Matt is a Registered Piano Technician of the Piano Technicians Guild Inc., has served as a technical consultant to piano factories, written articles for the Piano Technicians Journal and has given numerous educational presentations for piano technicians and piano teachers. Matt has enjoyed leading and serving on the boards of several community and professional organizations. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
